The Women Lawyers Coach
Experience
Over the course of her career, Marianne has built, implemented and
overseen programs in attorney training, associate professional
development, practice group development, individual lawyer business
development, marketing, media relations, client relations, lawyer
recruitment and retention.

Her experience in Am Law 100, large, medium and small law firms, as
well as in the courts and with the San Francisco Bar Association has
given her an in-depth understanding of not only the internal workings of
law firms and the legal industry but also what it takes to succeed in
today's legal market.

Marianne has worked successfully with more than one thousand lawyers
in diverse and varied practice areas and has served as a business
development and professional development trainer, coach, and resource
for attorneys ranging from first year associates to senior partners and key
rainmakers.

She is keenly aware of the legal industry’s current trends and challenges
as well as the specific hurdles that women lawyers must overcome to
achieve rewarding legal careers.  She now focuses her time training and
coaching women attorneys, to assist them in utilizing the special
strengths they have to succeed at business development and to make
effective choices at critical junctures in their careers.

In addition to being a skilled trainer and presenter, Marianne's extensive
internal law firm experience gives her the ability to connect with
associates and partners in ways that consultants who have only worked
from the "outside in" often find challenging.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Marianne’s interest in working specifically with women to help them
overcome challenges in the legal industry and business development
began almost two decades ago.

Marianne developed and conducted one of the first women business
development networking training sessions in the country, which was
offered by the Bar Association of San Francisco in the mid-1980s.  At that
time she also developed one of the nation's first in-house attorney training
programs, which was ranked by the
American Lawyer as #1 in the country
by associates and later used as a model by other firms.

She has helped women lawyers develop books of business that have
assisted them in achieving partnership, trained associates at every stage
of their professional development, worked with women to overcome the
challenges frequently encountered when asking for business or stating
accomplishments, helped women lawyers build self-sufficient and
financially viable practices on their own, and inspired women to achieve
their professional and non-professional goals without sacrificing their
multiple interests and priorities.  She has also counseled many women
lawyers at critical junctures in their careers.

Among her other accomplishments, Marianne worked with a team of
lawyers to transition a large international law firm from its least profitable
year to its most profitable year within the span of two years.  More recently,
she worked with a team of lawyers to build and position one of the
Southwest’s more visible law firm biotechnology and life sciences
practice groups.

OTHER PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
In addition to training and coaching, Marianne volunteers her time to
organizations that support the advancement of women in law firms and
women at large.

"While I am not a client of
Marianne Trost's, I had
the privilege of working
closely with her for nearly
seven years while she
was Director of Business
and Professional
Development and I was
Managing Partner of
Practice at a large,
national firm based in
California.  During that
relationship, Marianne
was always reliable,
possessed of a very
positive attitude and
demeanor, and
understanding of the
confidential nature of an
attorney's practice as well
as his or her need for
attention to practice
development.  She was,
and I am confident still is,
a delight to work with as
a person and one in
whose judgment a
practicing attorney can
rely."
